Best Guitar Courses
56Learning the guitar is a tremendously fun hobby. What's great about playing the guitar is that you can easily learn yourself. Why pay money for expensive private lessons when you can get a decent guitar course and learn from the comfort of your own home. If you dedicate the time to practice, you'll be playing guitar songs in no time and having fun doing it.
There are several excellent DVD guitar courses as well as courses that are online only. In this hub, I want to take a look at 4 guitar courses that I've had experience with, Learn and Master Guitar, Jamorama, and Guitar Tricks. Each guitar course has its own strengths and weaknesses which I hope to describe to you guys in this hub.
Learn and Guitar Review
Looking for guitar courses online will show that Learn and Master Guitar is one of the most popular program available. It has been the top selling guitar software course for the past several years, and I have seen its praises sung by many customers online. I had always been interested in learning the guitar so I convinced myself to buy the product and see if the course could help me become a decent guitar player. Read on for the rest of my Learn and Master Guitar review.
Learn and Master Guitar is taught by professional guitarist Steve Krenz. Steve is an experienced guitar teacher and his passion for teaching shows in the videos. The entire software package contains 20 DVD lessons, 5 Jam Along CDs, and a hundred page instructional workbook. The first thing that you notice when you open everything up, is how professional and well put together the whole package is. Everything about the course screams quality.
The lessons do an excellent job of teaching you the various guitar basics. In the beginning, you learn proper guitar position, correct finger and fret placement, and exercises for strengthening your fingers to play the guitar. Over time, you will learn more advanced topics like strumming techniques, advanced chords, reading music and how to play different genres of music like blues, jazz and rock and roll. The included Jam Along CDs allow you to simulate playing alongside a real band which is very helpful. It is a great way to take what you have learned in the lessons and improve your skills.
If you ever have any questions, then you can login to the online forums. The community is very active, and I found that my questions got answered very quickly. As an added bonus, Steve Krenz himself can be found on the forums quite frequently and you have a chance to pick the brain of the course creator himself.
Really, the only downside of the Learn and Master Guitar course is the price. It was definitely the most expensive course I saw online. Still, compared to expensive private lessons or school courses, the excellent guitar instruction and convenience of a home study course is well worth it. The course comes with a full 60 day money back guarantee, so you really have no excuse not to try it.
Jamorama Review
Jamorama is a guitar course created and taught by Ben Edwards. It uses an innovative system to help you learn the guitar by combining software, video lessons and games to help you learn the guitar. The course is well suited for beginners, but by the time you have gone through the course, you should be playing songs on your guitar like a pro. You can download all of the Jamorama lessons to your computer so you can practice at any time that is convenient for you. The videos are all professionally made, and the practice exercises are fun and effective.
The included Jamorama Jam Tracks are very cool learning method. The 26 different Jam Tracks cover a wide selection of musical styles like jazz, country, blues, rock and hip-hop. They are a great way to help your fundamental guitar skills. Some extra bonus software is also included with Jamorama. I like using the GuitarEarIt software which teaches you how to transcribe songs you hear on the radio or from other sources. Jayde Musica Pro is a cool game that makes the normally boring task of reading music fun.
If you are on a budget, Jamorama is a very affordable way to learn how to play the guitar. Jamorama creator, Ben Edwards is a solid guitar teacher and you will learn a lot from this course. Jamorama will teach you the fundamentals and you will be impressing your friends with your new guitar playing skills in no time.
Guitar Tricks Review
Guitar Tricks is one of the oldest online guitar course membership site on the net. Guitar Tricks came to life in 1998 and is one of the oldest guitar websites on the internet. A membership allows you to access its enormous database of 3000 guitar learning videos. The site literally has something on every guitar technique and skill you can think of, and you definitely will never run out of things to learn.
Guitar Tricks is a good choice for almost anyone, whether you are just starting out, or have been playing for years. They are constantly updating their catalog of guitar videos and new ones are being added every week. Most of the newer lessons are shown in high quality HD and although the style varies by instructor, I've found all the ones I've tried to be quite good. The little graphic they add to the videos is a cool feature which helps you time when to play each note. For beginners a visual aid like this is invaluable.
You don't have to be online all the time on the site either. If you want to do some offline practicing, you can download the videos onto your computer. You can then utilize the special video player to watch your lessons on your own computer. It's a standard video player, but it does give you the chance to replay back parts of the lessons. So if want to play back a certain technique you didn't get the first time, this allows you to do that.
The site also has a lot to offer for expert guitar players. It's easy to find your favorite guitarists like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour and find lessons which demonstrate the methods that made them special. You can learn so much from studying the great guitarists of our time. This is definitely a cool feature of the site.
The Guitar Tricks community is also a great place to learn. Make sure the visit the forums daily so you can chat with fellow members. It's an interesting place to hang out, or get answers to some questions on your mind. You'll might even meet some of the instructors on there occasionally.
Before you decide to join, take a look at the free basic membership and get access to 24 lessons free. This way, you can make sure that the lessons are something you will be able to follow. A full membership is just $12.95 a month and there's no long term commitment either as you just pay month to month.
