Dominate The Competition With Market Samurai
By bogleg20
Market Samurai is one of the coolest tools out there for performing keyword research and if you are doing any SEO work for your website, it would behoove you to check it out right away. Market Samurai is a desktop application that you will install locally on your computer. It was developed using Adobe Air, which means that unlike most Internet Marketing products, it will work on both Windows and Mac. Market Samurai consists of several different modules. The first module is for conducting keyword research, and it is actually completely free. The paid version, which you can get currently for $149 adds four more modules, the Seo Competition, Find Content, Promotion and the recently released Rank Tracker module.. Market Samurai is actually still in Beta, but when it is ultimately completed, it will also have three additional modules, the Publish Content, Monetization, and the Adwords modules.
Market Samurai Keyword Research Module
Using the keyword research module is actually quite simple. You first decide what keyword you want to investigate and input it into Market Samurai. You then can ask the application to generate a list of related keywords to your term. Market Samurai has some smart features for filtering using a variety of criteria including negative keywords, positive keywords, and phrase length. Once you have your list, you can hit the analyze button, and after some processing time, the software will spit out the results with some interesting analysis.
There are three important rules for choosing keywords to target with your website. They are:
1) Target keywords with high volumes of traffic
2) Look for keywords that bring valuable visitors to your site
3) Pick keywords that don't have high levels of competition
Lets see how Market Samurai keyword analysis features can help you pick keywords that meet these three factors. Looking at the analyzed results, there are two columns in the table, Searches and SEOT. Searches is the number of daily searches for a keyword, while SEOT stands for SEO Traffic. SEOT represents the maximum daily clicks that the number 1 ranked site for this keyword should expected to receive. By filtering using this value, you can remove any low traffic volume keywords from your list.
To figure out how valuable a keyword is, Market Samurai looks at a couple of pieces of information. The first is Google Adwords data. In the analyzed results, the tool gives you the AWCPC (Adwords Cost-per-click) value for each keyword. This gives you an estimate of what you might pay to rank #1 for this keyword in Adwords. Since people wouldn't be bidding on a keyword if they were not getting sales with it, this gives you an estimation of how valuable the keyword is. The other useful way to judge how valuable a keyword is by its OCI (Online Commercial Intent). This was a metric developed by Microsoft and basically it tries to tell you the chances that someone searching for this keyword is looking to buy, as opposed to just looking for information. The higher the percentage, the more likely the visitor is looking to buy.
The last rule for finding great keywords is to analyze the amount of competition it has. If a keyword has too much competition, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to rank well for it. To get a quick snapshot of the competition, Market Samurai lists the keyword's SEOC (SEO Competition). This shows you the total number of webpages indexed in Google which mention this keyword term. As a rough rule of thumb, you probably want to target keywords that have under 30,000 pages indexed in Google.
Using the keyword research module, Market Samurai allows you to find keywords that meet these three important criteria. Armed with these keywords, and with some basic SEO, you can get your sites to rank well for these valuable terms. Again, the keyword research module of Market Samurai is and always will remain free, so I encourage you to test it out. It really is pretty cool and useful.

Market Samurai SEO Module
The SEO competition module of Market Samurai is a very useful way to judge the quality of your own sites or your competition from an SEO perspective. For a given keyword, the module will give you the top 9 pages from Google and return to you a color coded table showing the SEO strength of each page. You can also add your own sites to this table so you can compare your site to the competition. Each value in the table is color coded, so you can see at a glance how strong the competition is. Cells shaded red are difficult to beat, yellow is average, and green is easy. Some of the more important SEO factors that Market Samurai lists are:
- Domain Age (DA) - How many years this domain has been registered
- Page Rank (PR) - The Google PageRank of the page
- Backlinks to Page (BLP) - The number of backlinks to this specific page
- Backlinks to Domain (BLD) - The number of backlinks to the domain of the page
- Keyword in Title tag
- Keyword in Url
- Keyword in Description tag
- Keyword in Header tags
By taking a quick look at the table you can easily evaluate how hard it will be rank for this keyword. If the table is mostly red, you know you will have a hard time showing up on the first page of the SERPS, no matter how hard you try. But if it is mostly yellow, then you have a good chance of ranking well provided that you do the appropriate on-page SEO optimizations for your own site.
I want to highlight a couple of other features of the SEO competition tool. The Page Rank Analysis function will show you the strength of the page's backlinks (in terms of Page Rank). This is a great way to see if there are any high PR pages linking back to you. Or look at your competitor's backlinks to figure out the number of links you need to get to outrank your competition.
You always want to have your keyword included in links back to your page. Market Samurai's handy anchor text analysis will give you this information and allow you see the anchor text that is being used by people linking to your page.

What's Your Favorite Keyword Research Tool?
I adore Market Samurai and use it every day. Now I am working on translating it into Spanish so it becvomes useful for 350 million more people
After analysis of many research tools, i am assured of samurai as the best.
Thanks.
I hear ya all! It's a crying shame that Hubpages is un-publishing hubs with affiliate links to this product. Where is the sense?
There is talk on the forums that they don't like us earning affiliate commissions outside of Amazon. I don't know if this is true, but what I do know is that I have written three 1500+ on keyword research, SEO, Competition research and how to identify the most profitable Amazon products to promote and I have had to fight tooth and nail to have my hubs re-published due to the affiliate links to Market Samurai.
I have been saying on the forums it doesn't make sense to allow new hubbers to publish 300 200 word hubs over three months yet punish established hubbers who write 100 - 1500+ word hubs which are extremely useful for hubbers.
Some of my favorite mentors with over 300 hubs have simply deleted the lost and left.
Commonsense really has to prevail.
Market Samurai is a quality product so they should concentrate on sub par hubs, not high quality hubs that they can't get any earnings from.
This ignorance is undermining the site!

While this hub is specifically about the keyword research aspect of Market Samurai, it's worth pointing up some of its other benefits:
Market Samurai will help you monetize your site further, find content for your site and publish it, enables you to follow the rankings of your site using its Rank Checker, and there is also a Promotion module, and an Adwords module to come.
Truly an awesome product :)
